Trough the Red Cross Association of Thang Phuoc Commune, Quang Ngai Province, the Fund learned about the plight of little Le Khanh Hoang, currently 6 years old.
The first time we met little Hoang at the hospital, he was a very small boy, he looked only about 3-4 years old. When you look closely, you can see that the baby's back is curved and raised. However, the boy is quite mischievous and has bright eyes. The baby walked quickly following his parents and carried his own small backpack. Hoang's mother said that before the Covid epidemic, her family took him to the doctor. The doctor said he needed surgery, but the cost was so high that the family could not afford treatment. His parents only worked as farmers, the rice they produced was only enough for the family to eat, his father worked other jobs to pay for the children's living expenses and buy other necessities.
Hoang is very mischievous at home and likes to hang out with other boys. The child said he liked one friend the most because that friend was strong and could beat the other children. Hoang was naughty but obedient, went to the doctor but still brought a notebook with him.
Today, after examining Dr. Thanh of the Rehabilitation Hospital, the doctor diagnosed Hoang's scoliosis to be severe, however, not severe enough to require surgery. Currently, baby Hoang needs to wear a spinal brace to avoid getting worse. Additionally, over time, the baby's spine may become less curved. Surgery is the last method if there is no improvement, plus it risks leading to other complications.
Last July, Hoang was given a spinal brace and will continue to be monitored periodically every 3 months. The road to cure Hoang's deformity is still very long. I hope he can be treated to develop normally like his friends.
